Having had the privilege of visiting Mikumi National Park on multiple occasions, we wholeheartedly endorse the experience of a half or full day safari. Our own adventures within the park have brought us face to face with an impressive array of wildlife, including lions, elephants, leopards, giraffes, hippos, buffalos, zebras, warthogs, wildebeests, impalas, kudus, lizards, snakes, and an abundance of bird species.
For those seeking an intimate adventure, consider a walking safari led by park rangers, offering a 6km trek through the park. Nighttime game drives also provide unique sightings, such as grazing hippos and lions on the hunt. Prices for half and full day safaris, catering to six guests, range from $365 to $415, including a $35 park entrance fee per person for non-Tanzanian citizens. UDZUNGWA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
Udzungwa Mountains National park’s trails are just waiting to be explored, leading to breathtaking waterfalls ranging from short strolls to more challenging treks. Some of these cascades even offer the chance to take a refreshing dip in their inviting waters.
As you arrive, a friendly local guide greets you, eager to share their knowledge and passion for the area. Your adventure begins with a visit to the tourist information center, where you’ll get a glimpse into the unique ecosystem of the mountains. Then, guided by your companion, you’ll set off on a journey through lush greenery to your chosen waterfall. Along the way, you’ll hear fascinating stories about the plants and animals that call this place home, making each step a memorable experience.

Mikumi is home to two Maasai Boma’s (a traditional boma consists of a variety of “houses” which are in essence small huts) offering cultural tours where you can experience and learn more about how and where the Maasai live and their long standing traditions. As part of the tour you will be invited to try their traditional clothing, watch and join in with their dancing and try your hand at starting a fire using their traditional method. We encourage you to fully embrace the experience by asking questions and participating in their activities.
CHIZUA WATERFALLS
Chizua Waterfalls, nestled in the Uvidunda Mountains within the Eastern Arc Mountains, is a breathtaking natural wonder. Along the untouched trail to the fails, visitors are treated to picture-perfect scenery with an option to visit a river cave, also known as the meditation cave.
The journey to the waterfalls begins at Msowero Village in Kidodi Ward, just a 22km drive from Mikumi town. The hike to the falls spans 3.65km and involves some inclines, so a moderate level of fitness is recommended.
The cost for the Chizua Waterfalls trip including snacks, water, guide and transport is $45 per adult and $30 per child.
A portion of the proceeds from visitor fees directly contributes to the village development fund, supporting local initiatives and sustainable projects within the community.

SUGARCANE PLANTATION CYCLING
Embarking on a cycling adventure through the nearby sugar cane plantation offers a unique opportunity to explore at your own pace while immersing yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes and communities.
Our cycling route can span up to 34km, but we’re happy to tailor the distance to match your fitness level, ensuring a comfortable ride on entirely flat terrain. Along the way, you’ll pass by the sugar cane processing factory, where the local alcohol Konyagi and K Vant are also crafted alongside the production of brown sugar.
Continuing on, you’ll pedal towards the picturesque Ruaha River, home to hippopotamuses and crocodiles. Here, we’ll pause for a delightful picnic, allowing you to refuel amidst the tranquil riverside setting before journeying back.
To partake in this unforgettable experience, including water, a picnic, bicycle rental, and transfer to the plantation, the cost is $55 per adult and $35 per child. Get ready to embark on a memorable cycling excursion filled with adventure and discovery
KIGAGA WATERFALLS
Kigaga Waterfalls is a splendid waterfall located at Msowero village along the Msowero river. The waterfalls trail is ideal for river exploration to discover nature, falls and natural river pool where you can enjoy a swim. The Kigaga waterfalls trail is approximately 1.2km from Uvidunda Mountains CTE office and the trail takes you on a hiking adventure. Within the rocks of Kigaga Waterfalls you’ll find a small gap that you can climb through which is known as the ‘fear hole’.
